Most pages ranking for this search are written by a company selling one of these courses, and many quote prices that have moved. The figures below were read from each vendor's own page on October 29, 2026, except where a line says otherwise. If you are weighing a firm-sponsored seat against paying yourself, the gap between the cheapest and the dearest course is $194, which is about two exam attempts.
SIE exam prep course prices compared
| Provider | Cheapest option | Most expensive option | Access | Pass guarantee on the SIE page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Achievable | $99 one-time | $99 one-time | One year | "Pass your exam the first time, or your money back," terms not shown on the page |
| STC | $129 Digital E-Course | $293 Premier Plus | Six months | Listed as included on all three tiers, conditional on following the STC study plan |
| Kaplan Financial Education | $99 Basic Self-Study (read September 18) | $229 Premium Live Online | Five months, $49 for five more | None stated on the SIE page |
Kaplan's SIE page today shows only the Premium package, with OnDemand at $199 and Live Online at $229. Basic at $99 and Essential at $149 were on the page in September and are not shown now, so check the cart before you count on them.
What each SIE prep course includes
Achievable, $99. A year of access, a question bank of more than 2,000 questions, and more than 35 full-length practice exams. It is the lowest price per month of access in the category by a wide margin, and it is the one to beat for a self-funded candidate who studies on a schedule.
STC, $129 to $293. The Digital E-Course is $129, Premier $141 and Premier Plus $293, all with six months of access. STC is the name many broker-dealer compliance teams already know, which is the main reason a firm will reimburse it without questions. Read the guarantee terms before you rely on it, because the page ties it to completing the STC study plan.
Kaplan, $199 to $229. Premium is instructor-led, either on demand or live online, and adds an AI tutor, the SecuritiesPro question bank, checkpoint and midterm exams, a mastery exam and a license exam manual. Five months of access runs out faster than it sounds if you start a month before your exam date, and a five-month extension is $49.
Access length changes the real price
Divide each price by the months of access and the ranking changes. Achievable at $99 over twelve months is about $8 a month. STC Premier at $141 over six months is about $24 a month. Kaplan Premium OnDemand at $199 over five months is about $40 a month, and extending costs $49 for five more. Most people study for the SIE for four to eight weeks, so the access window rarely binds, but it does if your start date slips or your employer schedules the exam after you enroll. If your exam date is not fixed, buy the longer window. If it is fixed and close, pay for the format you will actually finish, whether that is live classes or a bank you can work through on a commute.
A second check is what you will do after the SIE. The exam is a co-requisite for the Series 7, 63, 65 and 66, and a registered representative usually sits the SIE plus one of those within a few months. A vendor that sells the pair as a bundle can be cheaper than two separate courses, and a year of access covers both attempts without a second purchase. Price the whole path before you price the first exam.
The SIE exam fee is separate, and you pay it every time
FINRA's SIE page lists $100, 75 scored questions, 1 hour and 45 minutes, and a passing score of 70. None of the course prices above include it. A failed attempt costs another $100 and a wait before you can sit again, so a course that costs $50 more but gets you through on the first try is cheaper than the cheap course plus a retake. The retake math matters more than the sticker price once you are within $100 of the alternatives.
Who should buy which SIE prep course
| Your situation | Buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Paying yourself, studying for one to three months | Achievable at $99 | A year of access and a larger exam library than either competitor for the lowest price |
| Your firm reimburses and wants a familiar vendor | STC or Kaplan Premium | Recognized by compliance teams, and you want live or instructor-led delivery |
| You also need the Series 7 or 66 soon | A bundle from STC or Kaplan | Both sell the SIE with the next exam at a lower combined price than buying the two separately |
| You finished the question bank and the exam is two weeks out | Freshly generated practice at $49 a month | New questions on the topics your scores say are weak, so you reason through them instead of recognizing them |
Whichever course you buy, the pattern near the end is the same. Candidates finish a fixed bank, start recognizing items instead of reasoning, and watch their percentage climb without learning more. A tutor that writes fresh questions on your weak topics and answers follow-ups at any hour fixes that, and it is what the SIE practice questions on this site are built for. If you are working out what the license is for, a plan for the career move behind the license is worth an hour before you spend on courses.
