The short answer
Kaplan SIE exam prep costs $99 to $229 at list price, read from kaplanfinancial.com on September 18, 2026: Basic $99, Essential $149, Premium OnDemand $199 and Premium Live Online $229. The Series 7 top-off runs $139 to $309, the SIE and Series 7 bundle $209 to $479, the Series 65 $159 to $319, the Series 66 $149 to $299 and the Series 63 $59 to $159. Every package gives you 5 months of online access, and another 5 months costs $49. A 15% code, ADVANCE, is running September 14 to October 16, 2026, which is why you see a second, lower price next to each one. Two things the review sites miss: the 87% SIE pass rate on Kaplan's page carries a footnote describing a survey of students who bought a Kaplan Insurance course and reported an Insurance exam result, and the PassProtection guarantee is a free class retake for Live Online buyers, not a refund. Aspirants.ai is the alternative for the part a fixed QBank cannot do: an AI tutor from $9 a month that writes unlimited new SIE, Series 7, 63, 65 and 66 questions on the topic you keep missing and answers follow-ups at any hour.
What Kaplan Financial Education gets right
Kaplan has been writing securities licensing material for decades, and it shows in the License Exam Manual, which is still the most complete single textbook for the SIE, Series 7 and Series 65. Every package is built on that manual plus the SecuritiesPro QBank, where you build custom quizzes by topic and difficulty and take unlimited exam attempts. On top sit checkpoint exams, a midterm, a mastery exam and a practice exam that together tell you roughly where you stand, plus a performance tracker and a study plan. Kaplan has also added an AI Tutor to its Essential and Premium packages, so on-demand explanations are no longer something only newer vendors offer. The Premium tier adds instructor-led classes, live online on a schedule or recorded on demand, plus spiral-bound class notes and InstructorLink for questions to an instructor. For a sponsored candidate whose firm wants a recognized name on the receipt, Kaplan is a defensible choice, and the content quality is not the problem with it.
- License Exam Manual is still the most complete single securities textbook
- SecuritiesPro QBank with custom quizzes and unlimited exam attempts
- Checkpoint, midterm, practice and mastery exams on every package
- AI Tutor on Essential and Premium, instructor-led classes on Premium
Kaplan securities prices, every exam and every package
Kaplan sells each securities exam in three tiers. Basic is the core self-study tools. Essential adds the full study tool suite, including the AI Tutor. Premium adds instructor-led classes, sold as OnDemand recordings or as a scheduled Live Online class at a higher price. The table below lists every list price we read on kaplanfinancial.com on September 18, 2026, for the SIE, the Series 7 top-off, the SIE and Series 7 bundle, the Series 63, 65 and 66. The pattern is consistent across exams: Essential costs $40 to $90 more than Basic, and Premium OnDemand costs roughly double Basic. The lowest price in the whole securities line is $59 for Series 63 Basic, and the highest single-order figure is $479 for the SIE and Series 7 Premium Live Online bundle. If you are sitting the SIE and the Series 7 in sequence, look at the bundle row first, because it is cheaper than buying the two separately at every tier.
- Three tiers per exam: Basic, Essential, Premium (OnDemand or Live Online)
- SIE $99 to $229, Series 7 top-off $139 to $309, SIE plus Series 7 $209 to $479
- Series 65 $159 to $319, Series 66 $149 to $299, Series 63 $59 to $159
- Every package carries 5 months of access, extension $49 for 5 more
Why every Kaplan price appears twice right now
Almost every Kaplan price is shown struck through with a lower figure beside it. That lower figure is the list price minus 15%, applied in the cart with the code ADVANCE, and Kaplan dates the offer September 14 to October 16, 2026. So the SIE Basic package is $99 at list and $84.15 with the code, the Series 65 Premium OnDemand package is $289 at list and $245.65 with it, and the SIE and Series 7 Premium Live Online bundle drops from $479 to $407.15. Two practical points follow. First, the code is not applied automatically, so a candidate who clicks through without it pays list. Second, the offer is dated to end on October 16, 2026, so anyone buying after that should budget for list price unless a new code is running. On a $479 bundle, the code is worth $71.85, more than the $49 cost of an access extension. Affiliate roundups that quote a single Kaplan SIE price are quoting one side of this pair, which is why you will find figures from $84 to $599 attributed to the same product online.
- Code ADVANCE takes 15% off in the cart, dated September 14 to October 16, 2026
- SIE Basic $99 at list, $84.15 with the code
- The discount is not automatic: without the code you pay list
- Review sites quote one side of the pair, hence the conflicting prices online
What the 87% SIE pass rate on Kaplan's page actually measures
Kaplan's SIE page advertises an 87% SIE exam pass rate among surveyed Kaplan students, and Kaplan does something most vendors do not: it prints the survey method. Read that footnote before you rely on the number. As published on September 18, 2026, it says the data comes from survey research conducted by Kaplan, in which over 2,000 students who purchased a Kaplan Insurance course between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025 completed surveys and 2,008 students reported their most recent Insurance exam outcome. The same footnote appears on the SIE and Series 7 bundle page and on the Series 63 page. It may simply be a shared template that was never updated for the securities pages, but as written it describes insurance students and insurance exams, not SIE candidates. Either way the figure is self-reported and survey-based, which means it is weighted toward people who passed and chose to answer. For context, the only official SIE figure is FINRA's 74% first-time pass rate from 2019 data, and FINRA has not refreshed it since, so every current SIE pass rate you see is a vendor number rather than an official one.
- The 87% SIE figure is from a Kaplan survey, not from FINRA
- The footnote as published describes Kaplan Insurance course buyers and Insurance exam outcomes
- The same footnote is repeated on the SIE and Series 7 and Series 63 pages
- Self-reported survey pass rates lean toward people who passed
PassProtection is a class retake, and only on Live Online
Kaplan's securities guarantee is called PassProtection, and its terms are narrower than the name suggests. Kaplan's securities FAQ states that if you take the Live Online Class and do not pass your securities or insurance licensing exam, you may take the class again. That is the benefit: a seat in another class, subject to space availability, and Kaplan can substitute a web-based course for the live class at its discretion. It is limited to your product's access period. If you need more study time and buy an extension, fees apply and a new PassProtection retake term begins. There is no money back and nothing here covers the $100 SIE fee, the $395 Series 7 fee or the $187 Series 65 fee, which you pay again on every attempt. The Basic, Essential and Premium OnDemand packages do not qualify, because eligibility requires the Live Online purchase. Compare STC, which attaches its pass guarantee to all three of its SIE packages, including the $129 digital course.
- PassProtection means retaking the class, not a refund
- Only Live Online purchasers qualify, not Basic, Essential or OnDemand
- Limited to your access period; extending access costs extra
- Exam fees are never covered and are charged again on every attempt
Kaplan vs STC vs Achievable for the SIE
On the SIE the three names candidates actually compare are Kaplan, STC and Achievable, and their pricing shapes are very different. Kaplan charges $99 to $229 for 5 months of access. STC charges $129 for its Digital E-Course, $141 for Premier with a printed manual, on-demand lectures and flashcards, and $293 for Premier Plus with live virtual classes, all with 6 months of enrollment and the STC Pass Guarantee on every one of those three packages. Achievable charges $99 once for a full year of access, with 2,000+ chapter quizzes and 35+ full-length practice exams. So at the entry price, Kaplan Basic and Achievable are both $99, but Achievable gives you 12 months to Kaplan's 5. Kaplan wins if you want instructor-led classes and the depth of the License Exam Manual. STC wins if the guarantee matters to you at the entry price. Achievable wins on months of access per dollar. The same shape repeats on the Series 7, where Achievable is $199 for a year against Kaplan Premium OnDemand at $279 for 5 months.
- Kaplan SIE $99 to $229 for 5 months
- STC SIE $129 to $293 for 6 months, pass guarantee on all three packages
- Achievable SIE $99 once for a full year, 35+ practice exams
- Same $99 entry price at Kaplan and Achievable, 5 months against 12
Series 65 or the Series 7 and 66 path, priced at Kaplan
Candidates heading into advisory work often ask whether to buy Kaplan Series 65 or the Series 7 and 66 route, and the prep cost is only part of the answer. The Series 65 stands alone: no firm sponsorship, no co-requisite, 130 scored questions in 180 minutes, passing at 92 correct, and a $187 fee. The Series 66 requires the Series 7 as a co-requisite, which in turn requires the SIE, so the 66 on its own is only half a path. At Kaplan, Series 65 Basic is $159 and Series 66 Basic is $149, but the 66 route also means buying the SIE and Series 7 prep and paying $100, $395 and $177 in FINRA and NASAA fees. If you are not joining a broker-dealer and only need to act as an investment adviser representative, the Series 65 is almost always the cheaper license to hold. If your firm is sponsoring the Series 7 anyway, the 66 is the smaller extra step.
- Series 65 needs no sponsorship and no co-requisite, $187 fee
- Series 66 requires the Series 7, which requires the SIE
- Kaplan Series 65 Basic $159, Series 66 Basic $149
- The 7 plus 66 route adds $100, $395 and $177 in exam fees
Where a fixed QBank runs short, and what to add
Kaplan's QBank is good, and it is still a fixed set of items. Work it seriously and by week three or four you recognize questions rather than reason them out, and your scores rise for the wrong reason. A written explanation is also written once, for the average reader. When the options strategy explanation or the municipal bond tax point does not click, you can reread it or wait for InstructorLink. That is the gap Aspirants.ai fills, which is why this page is a comparison rather than a takedown. Our AI tutor generates unlimited new SIE, Series 7, 63, 65 and 66 questions on the exact topic your scores say is weak, explains every answer choice rather than only the key, and answers follow-up questions at any hour in whatever wording you need next. It costs $9 a month for one exam and $39 a month for every exam we cover, month to month, with no 5-month clock. For most candidates the right stack is a manual plus a tutor. If you already own the Kaplan manual, you may not need a second full course at all.
- Fixed QBanks stop teaching once you recognize the items
- A written explanation cannot answer the follow-up you actually have
- Unlimited generated questions targeted at your weak topics
- From $9/mo, month to month, alongside the Kaplan manual you already own

Kaplan SIE, Series 7 and Series 65 prep cost, answered straight.
Kaplan SIE costs $99 for Basic, $149 for Essential, $199 for Premium OnDemand and $229 for Premium Live Online at list price, read September 18, 2026. The ADVANCE code takes 15% off until October 16, 2026, so Basic falls to $84.15. Every package includes 5 months of access and another 5 months costs $49.
Yes, for content. The License Exam Manual is the most complete SIE text on the market and the QBank allows unlimited exam attempts. The weak points are the 5-month access window, which is shorter than Achievable's year at the same $99, and a guarantee that only covers Live Online buyers with a class retake.
For most candidates, yes, if you finish the manual and score consistently in the high 70s or better on the mastery exam before booking. The SIE passes at a scaled 70 on 75 questions. Where Kaplan runs short is repetition: once you recognize the QBank items, add fresh questions rather than retaking the same ones.
Five months from purchase on every Kaplan securities package, Basic through Premium. An additional 5-month extension costs $49. If you extend, any PassProtection retake term restarts with the extension. STC gives 6 months of enrollment and Achievable gives 12 months for its $99 SIE course.
Kaplan Series 65 costs $159 for Basic, $199 for Essential, $289 for Premium OnDemand and $319 for Premium Live Online at list, read September 18, 2026. The QBank alone is $74.50 and the License Exam Manual is $74.50. The NASAA exam fee of $187 is paid separately to FINRA.
The Kaplan Series 7 top-off costs $139 to $309 at list, and the SIE and Series 7 bundle costs $209 to $479. The bundle is $29 to $59 cheaper than buying both separately. The Series 7 exam fee is $395 on every attempt, on top of the course.
Kaplan offers PassProtection, which lets a Live Online student who does not pass retake the class within the access period, subject to space. It is not a refund, it does not cover exam fees, and the Basic, Essential and OnDemand packages do not qualify.
They are both part of Kaplan, Inc., but they are separate businesses with separate sites and prices. Kaplan Financial Education sells securities, insurance and financial planning licensing prep. Kaplan Test Prep sells admissions and healthcare exams such as the LSAT, MCAT and NCLEX, and its prices are covered on a different page.
Kaplan has the stronger textbook and instructor-led classes. STC attaches its pass guarantee to all three SIE packages, from the $129 digital course up, where Kaplan limits its guarantee to Live Online buyers. If the guarantee matters to you at the entry price, STC is the better buy.
