Sketchy PA costs $249.99 for six months, $349.99 for a year or $399.99 for 15 months. Picmonic for Physician Assistant costs $27.99 a month, $137.94 for six months, $203.88 for a year or $323.76 for 24 months. Both were read from the vendors' own pricing on October 15, 2026. Picmonic is the cheaper memory tool; Sketchy PA costs more because it adds 405+ interactive patient cases and an 8,300+ question bank.
Most PA students meet both names in the first month of didactic year, usually in a group chat where someone swears by one and someone else by the other. The arguments tend to be about style: Sketchy's long illustrated scenes against Picmonic's two-minute cartoons. The money matters too, because over a 27-month program the gap between the two can reach several hundred dollars, and neither one replaces a real PANCE question bank. Here is what each costs today, what you get, and which one to buy for the stage of PA school you are in.

Sketchy figures are from the PA tab of sketchy.com/pricing and Picmonic figures are the list prices returned by the pricing service behind picmonic.com, both on October 15, 2026. Both vendors run frequent promotions: Sketchy was advertising a FALL20 code that day, and Picmonic's fall sale, which ended the same morning, had taken 10% off monthly plans and 25% off longer ones.
For a full year Picmonic is $146.11 cheaper. The gap is widest at the start of a program: Picmonic sells a single monthly plan for $27.99, so a student who wants to try it through one block exam can do so without a six-month commitment, while Sketchy's shortest PA plan is six months at $249.99. Sketchy compensates with a full seven-day trial of everything, including the QBank and cases.
What Sketchy PA includes for the money
Sketchy's PA page lists 1,280+ high-yield lessons, 405+ interactive patient cases and 8,300+ quiz questions, with end-of-lesson quizzes and custom tests tagged to PANCE, End of Rotation and PACKRAT content. The lessons are the familiar Sketchy scenes, where each character in a drawing stands for a fact, and they are strongest in microbiology, pharmacology and immunology. The patient cases are the newer piece: you build a differential, interpret labs and make management decisions without answer choices, which is closer to rotations than anything Picmonic offers.
Two things worth knowing before you buy. First, Sketchy's footer lists a USMLE Step pass guarantee and an MCAT score guarantee, and nothing equivalent for the PANCE. Second, Sketchy's pay-in-four option applies to the Medical 24-month plan and the MCAT Prep Essentials 12-month plan, not to the PA plans, so a PA plan is paid up front after the trial. We cover the medical side of Sketchy, including the AMA discount, on our Sketchy price breakdown.
What Picmonic for Physician Assistant includes
Picmonic's PA library lists 1,900+ mnemonics covering about 22,000 facts, with 22,000+ multiple choice questions, PANCE and PANRE study guides, webinars, infographics and the mobile apps with offline study. Videos run two to three minutes, so a whole pharmacology class can be reviewed on a commute. The quizzes check whether you remember the details of each picture; they are recall drills, not clinical vignettes, so the large question count is not comparable to a PANCE bank.
Picmonic does offer a PANCE and PANRE guarantee. If you do not pass within one year of your subscription's expiration date, it promises a full refund or double the length of your access, provided you meet its eligibility criteria. On the medical side those criteria are a plan of three months or longer, at least 500 Picmonics learned before the exam, and proof of results within 30 days, and the plan cards show the guarantee on six-month and longer plans. Monthly plans do not qualify. Every plan length and the TrueLearn bundles are on our Picmonic price page.
What two years of PA school costs on each
| Scenario | Sketchy PA | Picmonic PA |
|---|---|---|
| Didactic year only (12 months) | $349.99 | $203.88 |
| Didactic year plus first rotations (15 months) | $399.99 | $203.88 + three monthly payments ($83.97) = $287.85 |
| Whole program to the PANCE (24 months) | $699.98 (two 12-month plans) | $323.76 (one 24-month plan) |
| With a PANCE bundle | No bundle sold | $429.44 for 24 months plus TrueLearn PANCE for 365 days |
Over a two-year program Sketchy costs about $376 more. That is real money for a student on loans, and it is roughly what a premium PANCE question bank costs. If either plan is going on a buy-now-pay-later account, it is worth knowing that some of those plans now report to the credit bureaus, and a tool that will explain what is moving your credit score can show you whether a string of small study purchases is costing you before you apply for a residency apartment or a car.
Which one to buy for each stage of PA school
Didactic year, heavy on pharmacology and micro: Sketchy PA, if the budget allows. Its scenes for drug classes and bugs are the reason it is famous, and the patient cases start paying off as soon as you hit clinical medicine. Use the seven-day trial during a pharm block to see if the style works for you.
Tight budget or you already know you like short videos: Picmonic. At $203.88 a year, or $323.76 for the whole program, it covers the same memorization job for a little over half the price, and the monthly plan lets you test it through one exam.
Clinical year and the PANCE: neither one is your main resource. You need board-style questions with explanations, and the cheapest serious option is Smarty PANCE at $79 for a year, compared on our Smarty PANCE price page. Our ranking of the best PANCE review courses puts Smarty, Blueprint, UWorld and Hippo side by side by price. A mnemonic library is a supplement for the topics that keep slipping.
Do you need both? Almost never. They do the same job with different art. Pick one, and put the money you save toward a question bank.
Where Aspirants.ai fits
The weak point of both tools is the step after the mnemonic. You can recall the picture for a beta blocker and still miss a PANCE vignette about which patient should not get one. Aspirants.ai writes new PANCE-style clinical questions on the exact organ system or drug class you choose, explains every answer choice, and answers follow-up questions at any hour, so a fact you memorized on Sketchy or Picmonic turns into a question you can answer. Try a few PANCE practice questions with the tool at the top of this page. Plans start at $24 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month, and you can cancel any time.
