Magoosh GRE prep course price and which plan to buy
Magoosh is the GRE course most people price-check first, because it costs a fraction of a live course from the big test-prep brands. The real question is which of its five plans to buy, and the plan grid makes that easy to get wrong: one month and six months are only $30 apart, and the section-only plans cost the same as one month of everything. We read every price from Magoosh's own plans and checkout pages, then checked who the score guarantee actually covers and what the GRE itself adds on top.

The short answer
Magoosh GRE Premium costs $149 for 1 month or $179 for 6 months, and Premium plus Admissions support costs $219, read from gre.magoosh.com/plans on October 12, 2026. Math-only and Verbal plus AWA plans are $149 each for 6 months. Plans do not renew, and you can get a full refund within 7 days. The 6-month Premium plan is the one to buy: it costs $30 more than one month and gives you five more months.
What Magoosh GRE costs today
Magoosh sells three Premium plans and two section-only plans. Premium is the full course: 290+ video lessons, 1,600+ practice questions with a video explanation for each, 8 full sections of licensed official GRE questions from ETS, up to 6 full-length practice tests, a score predictor, study schedules from 1 week to 6 months, an AI tutor and AI essay grading, and email help from an expert. Premium costs $149 for 1 month or $179 for 6 months, and the 6-month plan can be split into four interest-free payments of $44.75. Premium plus Admissions is $219: six months of Premium GRE plus 12 months of graduate application support (an application tracker, guided essay writing, 50+ video workshops and 40+ annotated statements of purpose). The Math plan and the Verbal plus AWA plan are $149 each for 6 months.
- Premium 1 month: $149
- Premium 6 months: $179, or 4 payments of $44.75
- Premium plus Admissions: $219
- Math or Verbal plus AWA only: $149 each, 6 months
One month or six months
Buy six months. The 1-month Premium plan is $149 and the 6-month plan is $179, so the extra five months cost $30 in total, or $6 a month. Per month of access that is $149 against about $30. Even if you plan to test in four weeks, the GRE has a way of moving: a reschedule, a disappointing first attempt, or a program deadline that shifts. Retaking means waiting 21 days, and the six-month plan already covers that window with no second purchase. Magoosh plans are fixed-length and do not auto-renew, so there is nothing to cancel either way. The only reason to pick one month is if $30 genuinely matters this week and your test date is locked.
- Five extra months for $30
- About $30 a month on the 6-month plan
- Covers a retake inside the same plan
- No auto-renewal on any plan
The section-only plans are rarely the better buy
Magoosh lets you buy a Math plan or a Verbal plus AWA plan for $149, each with six months of access. That looks like a saving until you notice that 6-month Premium is $179. For $30 more you get both sections, the practice tests and the score predictor, which the section-only plans do not include, and the larger +5 point guarantee instead of +2 on one section. A section-only plan makes sense in one narrow case: you already have a strong score on one side, you only need to lift the other, and you will use official ETS practice tests instead of Magoosh's.
- Section-only: $149 for 6 months
- Premium: $179 for 6 months, both sections
- No practice tests or predictor on section plans
- +2 section guarantee instead of +5 total
Who the Magoosh score guarantee covers
The guarantee is real money, but it excludes most first-time buyers. Magoosh promises a 5-point increase on Premium or 100% of your money back, and a 2-point increase on the section a Math or Verbal plan covers. To qualify you must have taken the GRE before, your earlier score must be less than five years old, you must email Magoosh a copy of that "before" score report when you sign up, and on Premium the guarantee only applies if your earlier score was 320 or below. Magoosh says plainly that someone who has never taken the exam is not eligible. So the guarantee works as a retaker's guarantee: if you are sitting the GRE for the first time, or you already scored above 320, budget as if there is no guarantee and rely on the 7-day refund instead.
- +5 points on Premium or 100% back
- Only for retakers with a score under 5 years old
- Premium: only if you scored 320 or below
- Send the before report when you sign up
Magoosh GRE discount codes and sales
Magoosh runs storewide percentage sales several times a year, and they are large. A 30% code, PUMPKIN, applied to every study plan until Monday, October 12, 2026, which put Premium at $104.30 for 1 month, $125.30 for 6 months and $153.30 with Admissions. A June sale took the same 30% off. If your test is months away and a sale has just ended, waiting for the next one can save about $54 on the 6-month plan, but do not let a sale decide your study start date. Partner and reseller listings for shared Magoosh accounts also show up in search results; they are not Magoosh products and the refund and guarantee terms will not apply.
- Recent 30% code: $125.30 for 6-month Premium
- Sales recur several times a year
- About $54 off the 6-month plan at 30%
- Avoid resold shared accounts
Magoosh vs GregMat, Achievable and Manhattan Prep
The cheapest full alternative is GregMat Plus at $11.99 a month, or $14.99 a month with the PrepSwift review videos, read from gregmat.com on October 12, 2026. Several review sites still quote $7.99, which is out of date. GregMat is strongest on verbal strategy and live classes and lighter on analytics; it bills monthly, so a five-month prep costs about $60. Achievable GRE is $199 once for a full year, with an online textbook, randomized questions and a money-back score guarantee of +8, +6 or +4 points depending on your starting score. Manhattan Prep sits much higher: its own FAQ puts on-demand courses between $299 and $499 and the live course at $1,399 to $1,599. Magoosh at $179 for six months is the middle option, and its distinguishing feature is the licensed official ETS question sets.
- GregMat Plus: $11.99 a month
- Achievable GRE: $199 for 12 months
- Manhattan Prep: $299 to $1,599
- Magoosh: $179 for 6 months, official ETS sets
What the GRE itself costs
Budget the exam next to the course. ETS charges $249 for the GRE General Test everywhere except China, read from ets.org on October 12, 2026. Rescheduling or changing your test center costs $55, each additional score report is $40, and a score review for the Analytical Writing section is $60. Candidates who qualify for a GRE Fee Reduction voucher pay $100 and get two official POWERPREP PLUS practice tests (a $45 value each) included. One attempt plus 6-month Magoosh Premium comes to $428, and a retake adds another $249.
- GRE General Test: $249
- Reschedule $55, extra score report $40
- POWERPREP PLUS: $45 per official test
- 6-month Magoosh plus one attempt: $428
Where Aspirants.ai fits next to Magoosh
Magoosh gives you 1,600+ questions and recommends turning them into no more than six practice tests, because the tests are built from your pool of unanswered questions. Students who prepare for three months or longer usually work through that pool and start seeing repeats in the final weeks, exactly when they need new questions aimed at their weakest topics. Aspirants.ai writes fresh GRE-style Quant and Verbal questions on the topic where you are weakest, explains every answer choice, and answers follow-up questions at any hour. Starter is $24 a month billed yearly ($288 a year) or $49 month to month, cancel any time.
- New questions once the Magoosh pool runs out
- Weakest GRE topics first
- From $24/mo billed yearly, cancel any time

Magoosh GRE price for Premium, Math, Verbal and Admissions plans, and which one to buy, answered straight.
Magoosh GRE Premium costs $149 for 1 month or $179 for 6 months, and Premium plus Admissions support is $219, read from gre.magoosh.com/plans on October 12, 2026. The Math plan and the Verbal plus AWA plan cost $149 each for 6 months. Prices are in US dollars and plans do not auto-renew.
For a self-studier who learns well from short videos, yes: $179 buys six months, 1,600+ questions with video explanations and licensed official ETS question sets, which is a fraction of a $1,000+ live course. It is less worth it if you need live teaching, or if you want a cash score guarantee on a first attempt, since the guarantee only covers retakers.
For most test takers aiming at a mid-range score, Magoosh Premium plus the free and paid official ETS POWERPREP tests is a complete plan. Students targeting 325 or higher often add extra hard Quant practice or a second question source in the last month, because the 1,600-question pool starts repeating for anyone studying three months or longer.
Yes. Premium plans include full-length practice tests with an ungraded writing section, built from your pool of unanswered questions, and Magoosh recommends creating up to six of them. The Math-only and Verbal plus AWA plans do not include practice tests or the score predictor.
Yes. Magoosh offers a 7-day free trial with 20+ questions and lessons, read from its plans page on October 12, 2026. Separately, every paid plan comes with a full refund if you email within 7 days of purchase, even if you chose installments.
Yes, within 7 days of the original purchase, for any reason, by emailing Magoosh. After 7 days the only money-back route is the score guarantee, which requires an earlier official GRE score under five years old sent at sign-up. Buyers using a non-US card may lose the foreign transaction fee their bank charged.
No. Magoosh states that you must have taken the GRE before studying with it, and that someone who has never taken the exam is not eligible. On Premium the guarantee also applies only if your earlier score was 320 or below. First-time buyers should rely on the 7-day refund window instead.
No. Magoosh plans are a fixed length and simply expire, so there is nothing to cancel. If you need more time you buy a new plan. Installment plans are not subscriptions either: the four payments continue even if you pause, and pausing extends your access by the paused time.
They suit different buyers. GregMat Plus is $11.99 a month and is known for verbal strategy and live classes; Magoosh is $179 for six months and is stronger on video explanations, analytics and official ETS question sets. Over a five-month prep the cost is similar, about $60 for GregMat against $179 for Magoosh.
ETS charges $249 for the GRE General Test outside China, read from ets.org on October 12, 2026. Rescheduling or changing your test center costs $55, each additional score report is $40, and a fee reduction voucher lowers the test fee to $100 for eligible candidates.
