NCLEX app comparison: the best NCLEX prep app in 2026, UWorld, Archer, Pocket Prep and NCLEX Mastery priced

The best NCLEX prep app depends on what you are short of. Short of money: Archer Q-Bank + CAT at $79 for a month, or NCLEX Mastery at $19.99 a month. Short of a bank your program recognizes: UWorld at $139 to $449. Short of time on your phone: Pocket Prep at $15.99 a month, the only one of the four that works offline. Every price and question count below was read from the vendor's own site on September 14, 2026, not from a roundup, and we have said where each app is the wrong buy.

There are dozens of NCLEX apps in the app stores. Four of them are the ones nursing students actually argue about: UWorld, Archer, Pocket Prep and NCLEX Mastery. This comparison covers those four plus the AI tutor we sell, and it sticks to things you can check: the price ladder, the bank size, what the guarantee actually says, and what each app does not do.

NCLEX app prices compared

Two things jump out of that table. First, UWorld is the only one priced by access term rather than by month, and the 30-day price is the worst deal on the ladder: $139 for one month against $229 for three. Second, the cheapest bank is also the smallest. Pocket Prep's 1,550 NCLEX-RN questions are less than half of what NCLEX Mastery sells for four dollars more a month. UWorld: the app your program probably assigned

UWorld is the reference product. The NCLEX-RN review is sold by access term: $139 for 30 days, $169 for 60, $229 for 90, $329 for 180, $389 for 360 and $449 for 730, with a course-plus-book bundle that adds $45 at each term. The bank grows with the term, from 2,600-plus questions at 30 days to 3,100-plus at a year, and every term includes 600-plus Next Generation items, high-yield review videos, adaptive CAT practice tests, digital flashcards, a study planner, two self-assessments and a set of UAsk prompts for UWorld's built-in AI assistant, which the product page marks as new. The rationales are the reason people pay: each one is a short teaching paragraph with an illustration where it helps, and they are the standard the other three are measured against.

What UWorld does not do is guarantee anything on the review course, and it does not sell a monthly plan. If you fail and need another six weeks, you are buying another term. It also prints a claim that 98 percent of its users pass on the first attempt; that figure is UWorld's own and is not a measured national statistic, so read it as marketing.

Archer: the cheapest way to a large bank

Archer sells four NCLEX-RN tiers and all of them include the same 3,100-plus question bank with standalone and unfolding case studies, 30-plus readiness assessments with CAT exams, performance analytics and a pass prediction. Q-Bank + CAT is $79 for one month, $99 for two, $129 for three and $149 for six. The Rapid Review combo adds on-demand content videos for $99, $109, $139 and $179 over the same terms. Sure PASS, which adds the three-day live review, an e-workbook and the pass guarantee, is $159, $169, $189 and $209. Intense PREP, aimed at repeat test takers, is $399 for three months or $599 for six with tutor guidance and group sessions.

On price per question Archer is the best of the four, and its readiness assessments are the closest thing to a rehearsal of the real computer-adaptive format that any of these apps sells. The guarantee is only on Sure PASS and above, and the 98.98 percent pass rate Archer prints is self-reported by students who completed every Sure PASS requirement, which is a smaller and more motivated group than everyone who bought the app.

Pocket Prep: the offline drilling app

Pocket Prep's Nursing School bundle is $15.99 a month, $39.99 for three months or $95.99 a year, and one subscription covers the NCLEX-RN, NCLEX-PN, ATI TEAS, HESI A2 and two college science banks. The NCLEX-RN bank is 1,550 questions across the eight NCSBN client-needs categories, with Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies the largest at 289 items and Basic Care and Comfort the smallest at 122. Pocket Prep states that the bank includes Next Generation NCLEX item types. Every question has a written explanation, the app works offline, and the study modes are the useful ones: Mock Exam, Weakest Subject, Missed Questions, Timed and Build Your Own. You can answer 35 questions free before paying.

The limitation is the size. At 100 questions a day, a normal final-month pace, 1,550 questions last about two weeks, after which you are recognizing answers rather than reasoning to them. The pass guarantee is three additional months of Premium access if you fail, not a refund. Pocket Prep also says on its own page that the app is not intended to be your only source of study material, which is the right way to read it.

NCLEX Mastery: the biggest bank for the least money

NCLEX Mastery, now sold under the HLT Mastery name by Higher Learning Technologies, is $19.99 a month or $119.99 a year for 4,000-plus questions with rationales, an adaptive engine, exam simulation and a discussion forum. You can answer up to 10 questions a day free. The guarantee is the loudest in the category: if you do not pass after following its study plan, it advertises paying you three times what you paid. It also prints a 99.7 percent pass rate, which like UWorld's and Archer's figures is the vendor's own number.

One observation from reading the NCLEX Mastery product page on September 14, 2026: the FAQ answer to "Who writes your NCLEX Mastery practice questions and explanations?" was placeholder text, the Latin filler designers use before real copy goes in. That may be fixed by the time you read this, and it does not tell you anything about the questions themselves, but it is the kind of detail worth checking on a page whose whole pitch is content quality.

Which NCLEX app should you buy?

The one thing none of these apps sells is a way to ask why. When a rationale does not land, you read it a second time. What none of the pass-rate claims tell you

UWorld prints 98 percent, Archer 98.98 percent, NCLEX Mastery 99.7 percent. The NCSBN's own first-attempt pass rate for US-educated RN candidates runs in the high 80s to low 90s depending on the year, so every vendor is claiming to beat the national figure by around ten points. Each number is self-reported by the vendor's own users, usually the subset who completed a program, and none is audited. Use them to compare marketing confidence, not outcomes. The two numbers that actually predict your result are the size of the bank you have not yet seen and your accuracy on the categories the NCSBN test plan weights most, which is why bank size gets its own column in the table above.

If you learn from video lectures as well as questions, one last habit worth building: turn each lecture into a short quiz right after watching it, either by writing five questions yourself or by running the recording through a video to quiz tool, and add the ones you miss to whichever app you bought. Recall within an hour of the lecture is where most of the retention comes from, and it costs nothing.

Whichever app you pick, buy the term that matches your test date rather than the cheapest month, finish the bank early enough to know your weak categories, and keep a source of unseen questions for the final stretch.
