Pocket Prep cost and review: $10.99 to $20.99 a month by bundle, is Pocket Prep worth it, and a $9 a month alternative

Pocket Prep has been building certification question banks since 2011 and it sells one thing well: a mobile-first bank of expert-written questions with a written explanation on every item, for a price most students can carry. A Premium subscription covers every exam in the bundle, so the $20.99 Nursing subscription includes all 36 nursing exams and the $15.99 Nursing School subscription includes the NCLEX-RN, NCLEX-PN, ATI TEAS, HESI A2 and two college science banks. The study modes are the ones that matter: a Mock Exam that draws new questions, a Weakest Subject quiz, a Missed Questions quiz, a Timed quiz and Build Your Own. Performance is broken out by subject so you can see where the score is leaking. Every exam lets you try 35 questions free before you pay, the app works offline on iOS and Android and there is a web version. On the NCLEX-RN, Pocket Prep states that its content includes Next Generation NCLEX item types, which several cheaper apps still do not.

This is the thing that trips people up, because the app store listings show one price and the website shows another. Pocket Prep has nine bundles and three price points. Nursing School, EMS and Medical are $15.99 a month, $39.99 for three months or $95.99 a year, which works out to $7.99 a month on the annual plan. Nursing, IT and Cybersecurity, Professional, Behavioral Health and Fitness are $20.99 a month, $49.99 for three months or $124.99 a year, or $10.99 a month annually. Skilled Trades is $10.99 a month, $24.99 for three months or $59.99 a year. So a nursing student preparing for the NCLEX-RN pays $15.99 for a 1,550-question bank while an ICU nurse preparing for the CCRN pays $20.99 for a 2,000-question bank, and a project manager preparing for the PMP pays $20.99 for 2,570 questions. The $20.99 tier is also where the October 2023 price rise landed: Pocket Prep raised Fitness and Professional from $19.99 to $20.99 a month, $47.99 to $49.99 a quarter and $119.99 to $124.99 a year for new subscribers, and its own pricing page still documents that change. Subscribers from before that date kept the old price.

Pocket Prep prints a Pass Guarantee on every bundle page, and it is worth reading exactly as written: pass your exam or Pocket Prep will provide three additional months of Premium access free. It is not money back. On the annual plan that is worth about $24 to $31 of access, and on a monthly plan it is worth $48 to $63, which is real but is not the same promise NCLEX Mastery makes when it advertises paying you three times your subscription, or the one Archer makes with Sure PASS. Pocket Prep also says plainly on the same page that the app is not intended to be your only source of study material. That is honest, and it is the right way to use it: as the drilling layer beside a content review, not as the whole plan. None of the four apps refunds the fee your board charges to re-sit, which is the cost that actually hurts: $200 for the NCLEX, $104 for the NREMT cognitive exam, $405 for the PMP as a PMI member.

A fixed bank is fine until you finish it, and on several Pocket Prep exams you will. The PCCN bank is 650 questions, the NHA CET bank is 650 and the NHA CCMA bank is 500; at a hundred questions a day, a normal pace in the last month, a candidate has seen every item in a week and is recognizing answers rather than reasoning to them. The NCLEX-RN bank is 1,550 questions, which is smaller than UWorld at 2,600 to 3,100 depending on the access term, Archer at 3,100-plus and NCLEX Mastery at 4,000-plus. The larger banks are genuinely large: NREMT EMT at 2,000, Paramedic at 2,060, ATI TEAS at 2,300, PMP at 2,570, and the ASWB, NCE, CAPM, CCRN and PTCB banks all at 2,000. Buy Pocket Prep Premium if you want a curated, expert-written bank on your phone for under $21 a month and your exam has one of the big banks: the NREMT, TEAS, PMP, CCRN, ASWB or NCE banks are large enough to carry a full study cycle. Buy the annual plan if you are more than three months out, because $95.99 or $124.99 a year is a third of the monthly rate over the same period, and buy it inside the bundle that already holds your next exam. Think harder if your exam has one of the small banks, PCCN, CET or CCMA, because you will finish it, or if you are preparing for the NCLEX-RN and want the biggest bank, where Archer and NCLEX Mastery are both larger for similar money. Search "Pocket Prep cost" and the first page is app store listings, a couple of commissioned review sites and a YouTube video. One of the review sites says prices start at $9.99 a month; another says $14.99 to $29.99. Neither matches pocketprep.com on September 14, 2026, where the three monthly prices are $10.99, $15.99 and $20.99. The confusion has an innocent cause: Pocket Prep raised prices in October 2023, the app stores show per-app prices that differ from the bundle prices on the website, and a review written in 2024 was never updated.
