The best NREMT test prep app for most EMT students is Pocket Prep at $15.99 a month, because it puts a full 2,000 question EMT bank in your pocket at the lowest monthly cost on the market. Buy Limmer's EMT PASS ($32.99 once) if you want questions built with a former NREMT executive director, and EMTprep ($39 a month) or MedicTests ($34 a month) if you want adaptive, registry-style simulations. Every price below was read from the vendor's own site or official app listing on September 18, 2026.

Search the app stores for EMT prep and you get dozens of results. Five paid options are the ones EMT and paramedic students actually compare: Pocket Prep, Limmer Education's PASS apps, EMTprep, MedicTests and How To NREMT. This comparison covers those five, sticks to things you can check before paying, and says plainly where each one is the wrong buy.

NREMT prep app prices compared

Three things stand out. Pocket Prep is the cheapest way into a 2,000 question EMT bank by a wide margin. The two apps with genuinely adaptive practice, EMTprep and MedicTests, cost roughly twice as much per month, and neither prints one consistent question count for the EMT level. And the guarantees are nothing alike: one gives you more months, two refund money under conditions, and one gives nothing at all.

What is the best NREMT prep app?

For most first-time EMT candidates it is Pocket Prep, because $15.99 buys a month of a 2,000 question EMT bank with written explanations, and $39.99 covers three months. If the NREMT's computer adaptive format is what worries you, EMTprep or MedicTests are the better buy because they simulate adaptive exams. Limmer's PASS app is the best small add-on for the final week.

Pocket Prep: the cheapest full EMT bank

Pocket Prep sells the NREMT inside its EMS bundle, which covers nine EMS exams on one subscription: $15.99 for a month, $39.99 for three months or $95.99 for a year. The EMT bank is 2,000 questions, AEMT is 1,300 and Paramedic is 2,100, and the free sample is 65 questions on the EMT bank. Study modes include a mock exam, missed-questions and weakest-subject quizzes, and it runs on iOS, Android and the web with the same prices on each.

The guarantee is the part to read. Pocket Prep gives three additional months of Premium, not a refund, and only if you held a paid subscription of at least three months, attempted every question in the bank, and kept a cumulative practice average of 80% or higher. Is Pocket Prep good for NREMT?

Yes, as the main question bank for the EMT level. 2,000 questions with explanations for $15.99 a month is the best value on this page. Its limit is format: the mock exams are fixed, not adaptive, so it will not reproduce the way the real EMT exam shortens or lengthens between 70 and 120 items. Pair it with one adaptive simulation before test day.

Limmer PASS: small banks, written by the right people

Limmer Education sells its PASS apps as one-time purchases: EMT PASS at $32.99, AEMT PASS at $21.99 and Paramedic PASS at $37.99. They were built with Bill Brown, a former executive director of the National Registry, which is the strongest authorship claim anyone in this category can make. EMT PASS holds 700 questions and two timed 120-question exams with predictive scoring.

The weakness is size. At 700 questions, a student doing 100 a day finishes the bank in a week, and Limmer publishes no pass guarantee. Limmer's own AEMT page also contradicts itself, saying "over 550 questions" in one place and 280 in another. Buy EMT PASS as a final-week check, not as your only source. Limmer also runs EMTReview.com at $24.99 a month (auto-renewing) or $67.99 for three months, with a weekly live review.

EMTprep: adaptive simulations and an AI tutor

EMTprep sells one plan, Ultimate, at $39 a month, $89 a quarter or $299 a year, and every term renews automatically. It covers EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, includes adaptive simulation exams with unlimited attempts, and has an AI tutor built in. That adaptive practice is the real reason to pay for it, because the EMT and Paramedic exams are both computer adaptive.

Two gaps. EMTprep does not publish a question count on its pricing page, so you cannot compare bank size before paying. And it advertises a "100% Pass Guarantee" ("we'll help you until you do, no extra cost") without written conditions we could find; its terms link returned a 404 when we checked. Ask what the guarantee covers before you rely on it.

MedicTests: the registry simulator, with a counting problem

MedicTests charges $34 a month, $69 for 90 days or $199 for a year on the web. The same plans cost $34.99, $69.99 and $199.99 as in-app purchases on the App Store, so sign up on the website. It covers EMR through Paramedic and Critical Care, and its National Registry Simulator is adaptive. Its guarantee refunds up to 90 days of membership.

The counting problem: the MedicTests homepage says 10,000+ questions and the EMT sign-up page says 4,000+. The larger figure most likely counts every level together. Plan on 4,000+ for the EMT bank, which is still double Pocket Prep's.

How To NREMT: the strictest money-back guarantee

How To NREMT prices every level the same: $33 a month, $69 for three months, $180 for two years, or $300 for lifetime access with three hours of tutoring. It carries 2,000+ practice questions, 2,000+ flashcards and an NREMT-style simulator scored out of 1,500, though the simulator itself does not show rationales.

Along with MedicTests it is one of two apps here that refund money, and its conditions are the tightest. You must fail on your first attempt after completing every step of the training plan in order, with passing grades on all finals and simulators, request the refund in writing within 30 days, and stop using the membership. Monthly plans refund at most 60 days of fees. Treat it as a discipline contract, not insurance.

The cost no app guarantee covers

The National Registry charges $104 per attempt for the EMT cognitive exam, $159 for the AEMT and $175 for the Paramedic, and none of the guarantees above repays it. The EMT exam is adaptive, 70 to 120 items in two hours. After a fail you wait 15 days to retest, you get six attempts in total, and three fails means remedial education. So one failed EMT attempt costs $104 plus at least two weeks of your hiring timeline, more than three months of Pocket Prep, EMTprep's quarterly plan or MedicTests' 90-day plan. Buying for a class or an agency

If you coordinate training for an EMT class, a fire department or a private ambulance service, the math changes. Pocket Prep's yearly plan at $95.99 per student is the cheapest way to put a full bank in every hand, and Limmer's one-time PASS purchase avoids a renewal you forget to cancel. What none of these apps do is tell you which of your people has certified and when their recertification falls due.
