Critical Pass flashcards and notecards price for the MBE, UBE and NextGen

Critical Pass is the deck most bar candidates buy next to a full course, usually in the same week they buy a question bank. The price depends on three choices: which exam you sit, whether you want paper cards, and whether you can get them inside a course you already paid for. This page lists the figures the CriticalPass store charges today and the traps around used decks, returns and bundles.

  • Freshly generated MBE-style fact patterns on the rule you just memorized
  • Every answer choice explained, plus follow-up questions at any hour
  • One plan from $24/mo billed yearly or $49 month to month, next to your flashcards

The short answer

Critical Pass flashcards cost $180 for the MBE Cards in print with digital access, or $135 for MBE digital only. The UBE Cards and the NextGen Cards cost $295 each in print with digital access, or $225 digital only. Every print set includes six months of digital access inside the AdaptiBar web platform, and the digital-only versions also run for six months. Unopened print cards can be returned within 10 days of delivery, and you pay the return shipping. Prices were read from the CriticalPass store on October 1, 2026; several review sites still quote older figures of $170, $140 and $105. Aspirants.ai is the add-on for the step after memorizing: an AI tutor from $24 a month billed yearly that writes new MBE-style fact patterns on the rules you just learned.

Bar chart of Critical Pass flashcard prices from $135 for MBE digital only to $295 for UBE or NextGen print and digital, next to Quimbee Study Aids at $276 a year and AdaptiBar plus UBE Cards at $790

What Critical Pass flashcards cost today

The CriticalPass store sells three editions, each in two formats. MBE Cards are $180 in print with digital access and $135 digital only. UBE Cards, which cover the MBE, MEE and MPT in one set, are $295 in print with digital access and $225 digital only. NextGen Cards, written for the NextGen Uniform Bar Exam, are priced the same as UBE Cards at $295 and $225. There is no subscription and no renewal. The digital side runs for six months from activation, whichever format you buy.

  • MBE Cards: $180 print and digital, $135 digital only
  • UBE Cards: $295 print and digital, $225 digital only
  • NextGen Cards: $295 print and digital, $225 digital only
  • Digital access: six months in every format

Why review sites quote $170, $140 and $105

Search for the Critical Pass price and you will still find $170 for MBE cards, $140 for MEE essay and MPT cards and $105 for the digital experience. Those figures come from the older lineup, when the MEE and MPT deck was sold separately. CriticalPass has since folded the essay subjects into one UBE set and repriced every edition. Anyone budgeting from a review written before the change will be $10 to $30 short per item. Use the number in the store cart.

  • Old lineup: MBE $170, MEE and MPT $140, digital $105
  • Current lineup: MBE $180, UBE $295, NextGen $295
  • Digital only today: $135 or $225

Print and digital or digital only, which to buy

The $45 to $70 gap between formats buys the physical cards. Digital access is identical, six months inside the AdaptiBar web platform, with notes, highlights, spoken text, quiz questions and custom decks. The store notes that the digital cards work in a web browser and are not supported in the AdaptiBar mobile app, which is the main reason people still pay for paper: cards fit in a bag and work on a train. If you study at a desk and like typed notes, digital only saves $45 on the MBE set and $70 on UBE or NextGen.

  • Print premium: $45 on MBE, $70 on UBE or NextGen
  • Digital cards run in a web browser, not the mobile app
  • Same six months of digital access in both formats

Which edition matches your bar exam

Buy MBE Cards if your jurisdiction tests the MBE but writes its own essays, or if you only want the seven multiple-choice subjects. Buy UBE Cards if you sit the current Uniform Bar Exam, because they add the MEE subjects such as business associations, family law and trusts and estates, plus the MPT. Buy NextGen Cards only if your exam is the NextGen UBE, which ten jurisdictions first gave in July 2026. That deck follows the NextGen content scope and adds professional responsibility and foundational skills. Check your board of bar examiners before you pay, because the $115 gap between MBE and UBE is easy to waste.

  • MBE Cards: 7 MBE subjects only
  • UBE Cards: MBE, MEE subjects and MPT
  • NextGen Cards: NextGen content scope, including professional conduct

Buying used Critical Pass notecards

Used decks sell on Amazon and eBay for less than the store price, and the paper is the same. The catch is the digital half. CriticalPass sends the activation instructions by email after an order, so the six months of digital access belong to the original buyer and do not travel with a secondhand deck. Rules also change between editions: an old MBE deck predates the current lineup, and nothing older than the NextGen release is written for the NextGen exam. A used deck makes sense for a candidate who only wants paper cards for a traditional MBE jurisdiction.

  • Digital access is tied to the original order
  • Older decks predate the current editions
  • Fine for paper-only MBE study, risky for NextGen

Returns and the 10-day rule

CriticalPass accepts returns of print cards within 10 days after you receive the order, by email to its support address. The cards must be unopened and unused, you pay the return shipping, shipping fees are not refunded, and the store reserves the right to refuse a return. In practice that means the decision is made when the box arrives. Open the shrink wrap and the cards are yours. There is no free trial of the full deck, although the store sells sample cards and its digital page invites you to try the platform first.

  • 10 days from delivery, unopened and unused
  • Buyer pays return shipping
  • Shipping fees are not refunded

When you already have Critical Pass through a course

Check your course before you pay. Barbri Elite, at $3,099 on September 29, 2026, bundles CriticalPass flashcards with the AdaptiBar simulator, the AdaptiBar Writing Guide and Quimbee videos, and it costs $1,000 more than Barbri Premium. Barbri Premium does not include them. The digital deck lives inside the AdaptiBar platform, which is part of the Barbri group, so Elite students usually find it already in their account. Themis students get the UWorld MBE QBank instead and buy flashcards separately if they want them.

  • Barbri Elite ($3,099) includes CriticalPass
  • Barbri Premium does not
  • Themis bundles the UWorld MBE QBank, not flashcards

Critical Pass or Quimbee for bar flashcards

Quimbee is the other common choice, and it prices flashcards very differently. Its Study Aids membership is $23 a month billed yearly at $276, or $33 month to month, with a 7-day free trial. It includes more than 7,900 flashcards across the MBE and MEE subjects, 7,000-plus multiple-choice questions and online outlines. Those flashcards are online only, and the membership renews. Critical Pass is a one-time purchase with paper cards you can write on. If you want a printed deck to carry around, Critical Pass is the only one of the two that sells it.

  • Quimbee Study Aids: $276 a year or $33 a month, online only
  • 7,900+ Quimbee flashcards in MBE and MEE subjects
  • Critical Pass: one-time $135 to $295, paper available

Where Aspirants.ai fits next to your flashcards

Flashcards are for memorizing rule statements. The MBE does not ask you to recite a rule; it hides the rule inside a fact pattern with four plausible answers. That is the step a deck cannot practice. Aspirants.ai writes a new MBE-style fact pattern on the rule you just memorized, such as the elements of adverse possession or the hearsay exceptions, explains every answer choice, and answers your follow-up at any hour. It costs from $24 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month. It is not a source of licensed NCBE questions, so pair it with your course bank.

  • New fact patterns on the rule you just memorized
  • Every answer choice explained, follow-ups at any hour
  • From $24/mo billed yearly, cancel any time
