Sketchy price: Sketchy cost and subscription from $349.99 to $649.99, the Sketchy discount that works, and Sketchy vs Pixorize

Sketchy built its reputation on microbiology and pharmacology, and that reputation is deserved. Each lesson is a single illustrated scene in which every character and object stands for a fact, so a bug or a drug class becomes one picture you can walk through in your head during a question. The library has grown well past those two subjects: the All Access plan now covers pathophysiology, immunology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, biostatistics and OMM on the preclinical side, plus internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, OB/GYN, neurology, psychiatry and family medicine for the clinical years. Every lesson ends in a quiz, the QBank can build custom tests, and the newer interactive patient cases let you work through a presentation with labs and imaging before you have ever done it on a ward. For a visual learner it is the resource that makes micro and pharm stop feeling like memorization, and that is worth paying for.

Sketchy Medical sells one All Access subscription in three lengths. Six months is $349.99, twelve months is $449.99 and twenty-four months is $649.99, which Sketchy shows as $58.33, $37.49 and $27.08 a month. The whole library is included at every length; there is no cheaper Micro-only or Pharm-only tier any more, so a student who only wants microbiology pays the same $349.99 as one who wants everything. A second product, Cases Only, gives just the interactive patient cases for $19.99 a month billed monthly or $119.99 for a year. Sketchy also sells gift cards at $100, $250 and $349.99, and offers Klarna Pay in 4 at checkout, so the 12-month plan can be split into four interest-free payments of about $112.50. Sketchy MCAT, PA, NP, Pharmacy and Nursing are separate programs with their own prices and are not covered here.

The headline numbers hide how cheap the extra months are. Going from 6 to 12 months costs $100 more and buys six more months, so each of those months is $16.67. Going from 12 to 24 costs $200 more for twelve more months, again $16.67 each. Both are well under the $58.33 a month you pay on the 6-month plan. The practical reading: if there is any chance you will still be using Sketchy in month seven, buy twelve months, and if you are in first or second year with Step 1 and the shelves ahead of you, twenty-four months at $27.08 is the cheapest way to own it. The 6-month plan only wins for a student in dedicated who is certain of their test date and will not touch the clinical courses afterward. Renewing accounts can also buy 1- and 3-month extension plans, but Sketchy does not publish those prices on its public pages and removes the option 90 days after a subscription expires.

The most searched Sketchy question after the price is the discount, and most of what ranks for it is coupon-site guesswork. Three discounts are real and documented by Sketchy or its partner. First, the AMA: medical students who join the American Medical Association can choose 25% off any Sketchy Medical plan as their joining benefit, and AMA student dues are $20 for one year. On the 12-month plan that is $112.50 off for a $20 membership, a net $92.50 saving, and it is the largest discount available to an individual. Second, group pricing: student-led groups of ten or more get at least 20% off any Sketchy program, and Sketchy says larger groups save more, with the organizer getting the best rate. Third, seasonal codes: Sketchy runs 15% to 20% promotions around match day, registration deadlines and holidays, always entered manually at checkout. When we read the site in September 2026 the banner still showed a Match Day code, MARCH15, so test any code in the cart rather than trusting a banner. Codes cannot be stacked, cannot be applied to a plan that is already active or renewing, do not apply to the 1- and 3-month plans, and never carry into an auto-renewal.

Sketchy describes its trial two ways. The marketing page says free trial, no credit card required; the help center describes a full-access 7-day credit card trial that charges on day seven unless you cancel first. Read the checkout screen to know which one you are starting. After that charge the rules are strict: Sketchy states that all subscription purchases are final and not eligible for full or partial refunds, and that a subscription cannot be switched to a different plan or program after purchase. Every Medical plan auto-renews at the end of its 6, 12 or 24-month term at the regular price, without any promotion you used the first time. You can turn auto-renew off on the day you buy without losing any access, from the Payments tab of your account, or by emailing support at least ten days before the renewal date. One quirk worth knowing: Sketchy raised its Medical prices on January 21, 2025, and accounts that have kept auto-renew switched on continuously since before that date still renew at the old rate. Turning auto-renew off, even for a day, moves you to current pricing for good.

Sketchy offers a pass guarantee for Step 1 and Step 2, and its terms are more specific than the badge suggests. To qualify you must have bought a 6, 12 or 24-month plan on sketchy.com that was active on your test date or expired no more than 45 days before it, have completed at least 150 lessons spread across two or more months before the exam, and be enrolled in a US-accredited MD or DO program. You then have 60 days after the test date to submit proof of enrollment and a PDF of the official score report. What you get back is the purchase price of your last subscription payment. Sketchy gives the example itself: buy six months, renew for three, fail, and the refund is the three-month renewal, not the original $349.99. The Cases Only monthly plan does not qualify at all. It is a genuine guarantee, but budget as if it did not exist.

The three visual mnemonic tools are priced far apart. Pixorize sells Medicine and USMLE Complete for $249 a year, or $185 for six months, and single-subject plans in biochemistry, pharmacology and immunology at $150 a year each; its pricing page blocks automated readers, so those figures come from an archived copy of the vendor page dated August 23, 2026, and are worth confirming at checkout. Picmonic for Medicine is $24.99 a month, $119.94 for six months, $179.88 for a year or $287.76 for two years. The trap on Picmonic's pricing page is that the plan cards load with a TrueLearn Step 1 SmartBank add-on pre-selected, which shows the annual plan as $489.48 until you tick no thanks. Sketchy at $449.99 a year is therefore about $200 more than Pixorize and $270 more than Picmonic. What you get for the premium is depth: Sketchy's scenes are long, story-driven lessons of ten to thirty minutes with a full QBank and patient cases behind them, while Pixorize and Picmonic are shorter, fact-per-image mnemonics that are faster to review and easier to pair with Anki. Picmonic covers 2,000+ topics and includes spaced-repetition quizzing; Sketchy's own page counts 1,300+ lessons, which is a very different number from the 350 videos Picmonic's comparison page still quotes for it. Many students end up with Sketchy for micro and pharm and one of the cheaper tools for everything else.

Buy twelve months unless you fall into one of two clear cases. If you are an MS1 or early MS2 who will use Sketchy through the shelves and Step 2 CK, buy twenty-four months at $649.99 and apply the AMA discount, which brings it to $487.49. If you are already in dedicated with a booked date inside five months and no intention of using the clinical courses, buy six months. Whatever length you choose, join the AMA first for $20 and take the 25% Sketchy benefit, because no coupon code beats it and codes cannot be stacked with it anyway. Turn auto-renew off on the day you buy, then set a reminder for the month before expiry to decide about renewing at full price. If you are unsure whether Sketchy's style works for you, use the trial on the topics you find hardest, not the ones you already know, and cancel before day seven if the pictures do not stick.

Sketchy is a way to remember, and it is very good at it. What it does not do is test whether the memory transfers to a vignette written in a different order, or explain why the third answer choice was wrong when the sketch never covered that distractor.
