UWorld Step 3 price and UWorld Step 3 QBank subscription cost for residents

Step 3 is the exam you pay for yourself, usually during intern year, with a $955 registration fee already on your card. UWorld is the bank most residents buy, but its Step 3 pricing works differently from Step 1 and Step 2 CK: there is no 30-day plan, the self-assessments are bundled in, and the price you see depends on whether you buy on the website or inside the app. This page lists every UWorld Step 3 price we read from UWorld's own page, what each tier adds, how renewals and refunds work, and what Amboss and Archer Review charge for the same exam, so you can pick the plan that matches your test date and stop paying for days you will not use.

  • Fresh Step 3 style vignettes on the topic you just missed
  • Every answer choice explained, plus follow-up questions after a night shift
  • From $24/mo billed yearly or $49 month to month, next to the bank you keep

The short answer

The UWorld Step 3 QBank costs $449 for 90 days, $499 for 180 days or $599 for 360 days on medical.uworld.com, read on October 22, 2026. QBank Plus, which adds 500+ medical videos, is $548, $598 or $698. Every plan includes the 2,100+ question bank, 90+ CCS cases and both Step 3 self-assessments, so do not buy the $50 forms separately. The same plans cost $649, $719 and $859 as in-app purchases in the US App Store.

Bar chart of USMLE Step 3 prep prices: UWorld 360 days in the iOS app $859, UWorld QBank Plus 360 days $698, UWorld QBank 360 days $599, UWorld QBank 90 days $449, Amboss with 12-month Qbank $448, Aspirants.ai Starter yearly $288, Archer Rapid CCS Prep 30 days $88

What each UWorld Step 3 plan costs

UWorld sells the Step 3 QBank in three lengths on its website. The 90-day plan is $449, the 180-day plan is $499 and the 360-day plan, marked most popular, is $599. The jump from 90 to 180 days is only $50, and from 180 to 360 days it is $100, so the longer plans are cheap insurance if your exam date might slip. That matters for residents more than for students, because rotation schedules and call blocks move study time around in ways nobody can plan in July. There is no 30-day Step 3 plan for new buyers; the shortest new subscription is 90 days. A 30-day period only appears as a renewal, at $149, which you can buy before an existing subscription expires.

  • 90 days: $449
  • 180 days: $499
  • 360 days: $599
  • No 30-day plan for a first purchase

QBank or QBank Plus for Step 3

QBank Plus costs exactly $99 more at every length: $548 for 90 days, $598 for 180 and $698 for 360. The only feature it adds is Medical Videos, which UWorld describes as 500+ on-demand companion videos. Everything else on the cards is identical: full QBank access, two self-assessments, the Medical Library and the UAsk AI study assistant. If you finished Step 2 CK within the last year and mainly need questions, the plain QBank is the better buy. QBank Plus makes sense for an IMG or a resident whose Step 2 CK was several years ago and who wants a refresher on topics like pediatrics or obstetrics that their specialty no longer touches. UWorld's own pop-up offers the upgrade for $99, so you can add it later rather than paying for it up front.

  • QBank Plus: $99 more at every length
  • Adds 500+ medical videos only
  • Same QBank, self-assessments and library
  • Upgrade later for $99 if you need it

What the 180 and 360 day plans add beyond time

The 90-day card is missing three things the longer cards include. First, a one-time reset option, which clears your test history so you can do the bank again from scratch. Second, the Study Planner. Third, a larger UAsk allowance: up to 250 AI prompts on the 90-day plan against up to 1,000 on the 180 and 360 day plans. The reset is the one that matters. Many residents do a first pass months before the exam, then want to redo the bank in the final four weeks as fresh questions. On the 90-day plan that is not possible. If you expect to want a second pass, the $50 step up to 180 days buys it, along with three more months of access.

  • One-time reset on 180 and 360 days only
  • Study Planner on 180 and 360 days only
  • UAsk prompts: 250 versus 1,000
  • $50 more buys the reset and three months

Self-assessments are already in the Step 3 plans

This is the part buyers trip over. UWorld also lists Step 3 Form 1 and Form 2 for $50 each, or $80 for both, each with two weeks of access. But every Step 3 QBank and QBank Plus card on the same page lists 2 Self-Assessments as included. Step 3 has only two forms, so a QBank buyer already has both. The standalone forms are for someone who bought a different bank, such as Amboss, and wants UWorld's three-digit score estimate before booking. Each form is 160 questions that are not in the QBank. Step 1 and Step 2 CK work differently: there the 90-day plan includes one form and only the 360-day plan includes all three, which is why advice copied from Step 1 forums tells you to budget for extra forms.

  • Both Step 3 forms included in every plan
  • Standalone: $50 each or $80 for both
  • Useful only if your bank is not UWorld
  • Each form: 160 questions, not in the QBank

Why the UWorld app charges more for Step 3

UWorld's listing in the US App Store shows in-app purchases of Step3 90 days at $649, Step3 180 days at $719 and Step3 360 days at $859, read on October 22, 2026. Against the website prices of $449, $499 and $599, that is $200, $220 and $260 more for the same access lengths. Buying inside the app has a second cost: UWorld's refund policy says it cannot process refunds for in-app purchases and sends you to Apple instead. The app itself is fine for studying. Buy the subscription on medical.uworld.com, then log in to the app with the same account, and the subscription syncs to your phone.

  • App Store 90 days: $649
  • App Store 360 days: $859
  • Website is $200 to $260 cheaper
  • UWorld cannot refund in-app purchases

UWorld Step 3 renewal prices

If your exam moves, renewing is cheaper than buying again, but only before your subscription expires. UWorld's Step 3 QBank renewals are $59 for 7 days, $89 for 15, $149 for 30, $219 for 60, $259 for 90, $319 for 180 and $399 for 360 days. CCS cases can be renewed on their own, from $35 for 7 days and $75 for 30 days up to $155 for 360 days, which is useful if you finished the multiple-choice questions and only want to keep practicing cases. A self-assessment form renews for $30 for two weeks. Renewals start from your current expiration date, cannot be deferred, and do not reset your test history unless you meet UWorld's eligibility rules.

  • QBank renewal: $59 for 7 days, $149 for 30
  • CCS-only renewal: $75 for 30 days
  • Self-assessment renewal: $30
  • Must renew before the subscription expires

Refunds and the fine print

UWorld considers refunds on subscriptions longer than 30 days, which covers every Step 3 plan. The refund is pro-rated by whichever is larger, the share of days elapsed or the share of questions used, then a processing fee of 10% (minimum $10) comes off. If you used the reset or answered every question, no refund is allowed, and expired subscriptions get nothing. Requests have to be made within 360 days of purchase. UWorld does not offer a free trial or guest account for Step 3, only a demo with sample questions on the product page. A subscription starts when you activate it, not when you pay, so you can buy during a sale and start the clock later.

  • Pro-rated by days or questions, whichever is higher
  • 10% processing fee, minimum $10
  • No refund after a reset
  • Clock starts at activation, not purchase

UWorld Step 3 vs Amboss and Archer Review on price

Amboss sells Step 3 through the same yearly membership as every other step: $298 for a year with one month of unlimited Qbank, $378 with six months, or $448 with twelve, read from amboss.com on October 22, 2026. Amboss lists 2,250+ Step 3 questions, more than UWorld's 2,100+, and offers a full refund within 30 days. What Amboss does not sell is CCS cases; its own Step 3 FAQ tells residents to practice CCS elsewhere. Archer Review sells CCS-only courses: CCS Strategies Only for $70 (a 2-hour strategy video) and Rapid CCS Prep for $88 (40+ hours of case demonstrations and 25 high-yield case walkthroughs), each with 30 days of access. So an Amboss buyer who wants CCS practice pays roughly $448 plus $88, which is close to UWorld's $499 for 180 days with cases included.

  • Amboss 12-month Qbank: $448, 2,250+ questions, no CCS
  • Archer Rapid CCS Prep: $88 for 30 days
  • UWorld 180 days: $499 with 90+ CCS cases
  • Amboss refund: full within 30 days

Which plan to buy for your test date

Count backward from your exam. If it is under three months away and you will do one pass, buy the $449 90-day QBank and nothing else. If it is three to six months away, or you want the reset for a second pass, buy the $499 180-day plan; it is the best value on the page. Buy 360 days only if you are an intern who plans to spread Step 3 across the year, and add videos only if your Step 2 CK knowledge has faded. Whatever you buy, buy it on the website, skip the standalone self-assessments, and remember that the $955 FSMB fee for 2026 and 2027 is separate.

  • Under 3 months, one pass: $449
  • 3 to 6 months or a second pass: $499
  • Spread across intern year: $599
  • Always buy on the website, not in the app

Honest answers

UWorld Step 3 price for the QBank, QBank Plus, self-assessments and renewals, answered straight.

The UWorld Step 3 QBank costs $449 for 90 days, $499 for 180 days or $599 for 360 days on UWorld's website, read on October 22, 2026. QBank Plus, which adds 500+ videos, is $548, $598 or $698. Each plan includes 2,100+ questions, 90+ CCS cases and both Step 3 self-assessments.

UWorld does not sell a 30-day Step 3 plan to new buyers; the shortest is 90 days for $449. A 30-day period is available only as a renewal of an active subscription, for $149. If your exam is a month away and you have no subscription, the 90-day plan is the cheapest way in.

Yes. UWorld says its Step 3 QBank includes 2,100+ practice questions and 90+ CCS cases, run in exam-like software. CCS access can also be renewed on its own, from $35 for 7 days to $155 for 360 days, if you have finished the multiple-choice questions and only want to keep practicing cases.

Yes. Every UWorld Step 3 QBank and QBank Plus plan lists two self-assessments as included, and Step 3 has only two forms. The standalone forms at $50 each or $80 for both are meant for people using a different question bank. Step 1 and Step 2 CK are different: there the number of forms included depends on the plan length.

UWorld's Step 3 page says 2,100+ practice questions and 90+ CCS cases in its headline and course description, while one FAQ answer on the same page says more than 2,300. The self-assessments add 160 questions each that are not in the QBank. Amboss lists 2,250+ Step 3 questions for comparison.

In-app purchases in the US App Store are priced at $649 for 90 days, $719 for 180 and $859 for 360, which is $200 to $260 more than the website. UWorld also says it cannot refund in-app purchases. Buy on medical.uworld.com and log in to the app with the same account instead.

Sometimes. UWorld considers refunds on subscriptions longer than 30 days, pro-rated by days elapsed or questions used, whichever is higher, minus a 10% processing fee with a $10 minimum. No refund is given after a reset, after using every question, or after the subscription expires, and requests must come within 360 days of purchase.

Amboss is slightly cheaper for a year: $448 for a membership with 12 months of unlimited Qbank against $599 for UWorld's 360-day QBank. But Amboss has no CCS cases, so adding Archer's $88 Rapid CCS Prep brings it to about $536. UWorld's 180-day plan at $499 includes cases and both self-assessments.

For most US residents, UWorld's QBank plus its CCS cases is the core of Step 3 prep, and both self-assessments are included. Many also run through the free practice materials on usmle.org, including the CCS practice software, before test day. Add a second source only for weak areas or if your Step 2 CK knowledge has faded.

The FSMB lists the Step 3 application fee at $955 for eligibility periods in 2026 and 2027. Add a question bank, typically $449 to $599 for UWorld, and the usual total is about $1,400 to $1,550 before travel to a Prometric center for the two-day exam. Some residency programs reimburse part of it, so ask yours.
